In recent years there has been a heightened interest
in physiological monitoring during sleep. Research has shown that
there can be alteration in many parameters during sleep, which at
other times appear normal. In an effort to meet the needs of our
patients who require diagnostic sleep Respiratory division, IV & Respiratory Care
has developed a program which produces laboratory-quality studies
in the alternate care setting. Our program has been measured against
nationally accepted standards. This assures that with all components
of the sleep study, from the equipment, personnel, and types of
tests offered, to the continuous quality improvement activities
performed; we meet or exceed the voluntary guidelines.
With the use of an extensive questionnaire to assess patient symptoms,
both before and after testing we are able to provide a complete
picture of the patient’s status for the physician to review.
Electrode applications takes place in the patient’s home or
other outpatient setting at bedtime, and electrical and biological
calibration of the equipment as the test begins, assures a recording
of the highest quality.
Our goal is to provide the highest quality of sleep testing available
in the market, in a timely, cost effective manner. Typically within
two weeks of testing a complete study, including physician interpretation
can be obtained. If the results are needed more urgently, a preliminary
(uninterpreted) copy of the test can be provided within three working
days. All patient studies are archived on magnetic media, making
actual wave form data available any time for printing and physician
review. If events of concern are seen during the scoring process,
physician contact will be made promptly, with facsimile transmission
of the wave form data available.
